We are incredibly excited to offer our most unique cooking retreat yet. We’ve partnered with acclaimed California chef and cooking instructor, Carol Cotner Thompson, to create a food-focused cultural experience that will teach participants the fundamentals of traditional Californian cuisine while celebrating the spectacular ingredients of Colombia’s coffee region. Carol has been working closely with our in-house chef, Kevin Morales, to highlight the unique flavors and characteristics of Colombia’s produce, protein and fruits. This will be the best tasting week ever at Hacienda La Sierra – and we really, really love our food.

THE ADVENTURE


Will start in Medellin, a city famous for its perfect climate and recent cultural resurgence. Newsweek recently named it the “world’s smartest city” for how it has used technology and the arts to create vibrant communities.

The retreat then moves to Hacienda La Sierra, where it will center around four intensive hands-on cooking classes taught by acclaimed chefs Carol Cotner Thompson and Jill Chessé, from californiaculinaryretreats.com

Carol and Jill have created unforgettable cooking immersion experiences for over 20 years. Their classes will be technique driven and encourage participants to become competent and intuitive cooks. This is a unique opportunity to learn techniques paired with ingredients from a tropical wonderland.

The beautifully appointed guest rooms of Hacienda La Sierra will provide plenty of opportunity for relaxation and participants will be able to enjoy other activities like hiking, horseback riding and birding. There will also be many opportunities to learn about growing, preparing and tasting coffee while on the farm!

CHEF HOST

Carol Cotner Thompson


Carol has been cooking professionally for over thirty years. Since graduating from the California Culinary Academy’s professional cooking and pastry Arts programs in 1985, she has cooked in many notable restaurants and developed a substantial resume as a pastry chef, private chef, consultant, food stylist, caterer, blogger, on-camera chef, recipe developer and marketing consultant for print and on-camera productions.

Carol’s love of travel takes her as guest chef to Spain, Canada, Mexico, France, New York, New Orleans & beautiful locations throughout her home state of California.

Carol currently lives in Los Angeles, is a staff instructor at the gourmandiseschool.com and works freelance as a chef/consultant at carolcotnerthompson.com

Cancellation Policy


All reservations must be paid in advance to be confirmed. Cancellations up to 20 days before arrival will receive a 100% refund, less a 5% charge for banking fees. Cancellations informed 10 days before arrival will receive an 80% refund, less a 5% charge for banking fees. Cancellations informed 5 days before arrival will receive a 50% refund, less a 5% charge for banking fees. In the event that the client does not show up, the non-canceled reservation charge applies, which is equivalent to 100% of the visit. The change of dates, requested prior to your arrival, is subject to availability. All cancellations must be notified in writing via email. Reservations can be made by emailing [email protected].
